- The earliest mention of city-building is that of Enoch, which was built by Cain ( Gen. 4:17 ). After the confusion of tongues, the descendants of Nimrod founded several cities (10:10-12).
- City of Salt Place
- Biblical settlement. Modern identification: Qumran.
- Engedi Place
- Biblical region. Modern identification: Ein Gedi.
- Nibshan Place
- Fertile; light soil, a city somewhere “in the wilderness” of Judah ( Josh. 15:62 ), probably near Engedi. Modern identification: Khirbet el Maqari.
