Ishmael had twelve sons, whose families became distinct tribes. They peopled a very large country that lay between Egypt and Assyria, called Arabia.

- Refresher, one of the sons of Ishmael ( Gen. 25:15 ; 1 Chr. 1:31 ). He was the father of an Arab tribe.
